Lifetime Membership Returns to PA Freemasonry
For generations, Pennsylvania Masons valued the opportunity to make a lasting commitment to their lodge through Lifetime Membership. Following action by the Grand Lodge and the development of new administrative safeguards and financial modeling tools, the Lifetime Membership Endowment Program is once again returning to Pennsylvania Freemasonry.
The restored program is designed to provide members with a meaningful long-term option for supporting their lodge, while ensuring that future obligations remain financially sound and responsibly managed.
Under the new policy, eligible members may obtain Lifetime Membership through a one-time payment, calculated using modern actuarial and financial assumptions. Factors such as age, current dues obligations, inflation projections, investment return assumptions and life expectancy are all incorporated into the calculation process. The goal is straightforward: to ensure that the program remains sustainable both for Blue Lodge and Grand Lodge operations far into the future.
Once the program is integrated into the Grand View membership system, members will be able to review educational materials and access an unofficial estimator directly through Grand View before formally applying through their Lodge Secretary. Once an application is submitted, the system will guide the approval and documentation process through the Lodge Secretary and District Deputy Grand Master.
This approach modernizes what was once a largely manual process and creates consistency across the jurisdiction. It also allows members to better understand the long-term value of Lifetime Membership before making a decision.
Importantly, the program has been structured to protect lodge finances. The Blue Lodge portion of the payment remains with the lodge and is deposited into the Lodge Permanent Fund, where it functions as an endowment supporting the long-term health and stability of the lodge. Meanwhile, the Grand Lodge portion is remitted to Grand Lodge for similar investment, helping satisfy future obligations established under Masonic Law.
The program also recognizes that every lodge is different. Eligibility standards tied to the Blue Lodge dues help ensure that participation occurs only at dues levels that will support the program responsibly. These standards help ensure fairness to the entire jurisdiction and prevent situations where Lifetime Memberships are offered at financially unsustainable levels.
The program also creates new opportunities for meaningful Masonic gifts. Eligible members may purchase a Lifetime Membership on behalf of another eligible brother, allowing families, mentors, close friends or brethren to honor a Mason’s years of service, family tradition or dedication to the fraternity with a lasting gift to both the member and his lodge.
Lifetime Membership reflects a brother’s desire to make a permanent investment in the future of his lodge and in Pennsylvania Freemasonry itself. It is both a practical decision and a lasting commitment to the Craft and to the generations of Masons who will follow.
